Brower Drain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Brower Drain is a drainage canal in Ottawa County in the US state of Michigan . Construction was completed in 1908 when this area was opened up for settlement. The current purpose of the canal is to divert rainwater to the Macatawa River . As a result of urbanization, the sewer was partially piped, it accommodates various septic tanks and drains water into the urban sewer system. Part of it flows above ground into a pond in the park area at 96th Avenue, north of Zeeland . The closest localities are among others Holland and Zeeland.

On August 9, 2000, environmental pollution caused a stir. One person deliberately pumped over 94,000 liters of liquid waste and cleaning chemicals from an underground collection tank into the sewer through the drainage system . In this illegal action, the ecosystem along the canal and the downstream waters were badly damaged. The court sentenced the perpetrator to pay $ 40,500 in damages  .
