Browningia columnaris is a species of the genus Browningia in the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Browningia columnaris grows individually, occasionally branches out from the middle and reaches heights of 3 to 5 meters. The columnar blue-green shoots have a diameter of 8 to 10 centimeters. There are 13 to 19 notched ribs that are 1.2 to 1.8 inches high. The round to oval areoles on it are 10 to 25 millimeters apart. The thorns emerging from the areoles are brownish to grayish brown. The four cross-arranged central spines are sub-like and 3 to 6 inches long. The approximately 12 awl radial spines have a length of up to 4 centimeters.

Nothing is known about the flowers . The spherical fruits do not tear open.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Browningia columnaris is common in the Peruvian region of Ayacucho in the Río Pampas Gorge on steep limestone cliffs. It was first described in 1981 by Friedrich Ritter .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
