Browningia pilleifera is a species of the genus Browningia in the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Browningia pilleifera grows tree-shaped, reaches heights of 3 to 4 meters and is strongly spreading to ascending branches from near the base. There are 7 to 9 triangular or rounded ribs . The areoles on older shoots flow together. Some graying thorns spring from the old vegetative shoots . The up to three central spines are up to 5 centimeters long. The up to three radial spines have a length of 1 to 3 millimeters. The flowering shoots are thornless, but sometimes covered with a few whitish hairs .

The white flowers reach a length of 3.2 to 3.5 centimeters and are covered with scales. The club-shaped, green fruits have a diameter of up to 2 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Browningia pilleifera is in the Peruvian region of Amazonas in Balsas along the Río Marañón common. It was first described as Gymnanthocereus pilleifer in 1967 by Friedrich Ritter . Paul Clifford Hutchison placed them in the genus Browningia in 1968 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
