Brownlow Cecil, 4th Marquess of Exeter PC DL ( December 20, 1849 - April 9, 1898 ) was a British politician and Conservative politician. In 1891 and 1892 he was Vice Chamberlain of the Household .

origin

Cecil was the eldest son of William Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Exeter and Georgiana Sophia Pakenham, daughter of Thomas Pakenham, 2nd Earl of Longford . As his father's apparent marriage , he carried the courtesy title of Lord Burghley from 1867 .

Politician

Between 1877 and 1895 he was a Member of the House of Commons for Northamptonshire North . In 1891, when his distant relative Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury , was Prime Minister, he became Vice-Chamberlain of the Household and a member of the Privy Council .

At the death of his father in 1895 he inherited his title of nobility as Marquess of Exeter , Earl of Exeter and Baron Burghley and received a seat in the House of Lords . In addition to his political career, he was Captain of the Grenadier Guards and Honorary Colonel of the 3rd and 4th Bartallons of the Northamptonshire Regiment . He was also a temporary deputy lieutenant of Lincolnshire .

family

In 1875 he married Isabella Whichcote († 1917), daughter of Sir Thomas Whichcote, 7th Baronet . With her he had a child, William (1876-1956), who inherited him when he died in 1898 at the age of 48.
