Brownlow Cecil, 8th Earl of Exeter

Brownlow Cecil, 8th Earl of Exeter ( August 4, 1701 - November 3, 1754 ) was a British peer and politician.

Life

Exeter was the younger son of John Cecil, 6th Earl of Exeter , and Elizabeth Brownlow, daughter of Sir John Brownlow, 3rd Baronet . He was educated at St John's College, Cambridge . In 1722 he was a brief MP for Stamford in the House of Commons . In the same year he inherited the title of Earl of Exeter and Baron Burghley from his older brother, who died childless, and was promoted to the House of Lords .

He married Hannah Sophia Chambers, daughter of Thomas Chambers, a London merchant and administrator of the Company of Copper. He had three children with her:

  • Lady Elizabeth Cecil († 1813) ⚭ John Chaplin of Blankney († 1764);
  • Brownlow Cecil, 9th Earl of Exeter (1725-1793);
  • Hon. Thomas Chambers Cecil (around 1728–1778).

When he died at the age of 53, his son Brownlow inherited him .
