Brownsweg is a transmigration point and resort in the Brokopondo district , in the Republic of Suriname . The place has 4793 inhabitants (Census 2012).
In the first half of the 1960s, around 5000 Saramaccans had to leave their old villages and places of worship for the Brokopondo reservoir . Some of the victims were resettled to Brownsweg.
The place is divided into the districts Nieuw-Verwaltunge (seat of the Hoofdkapitein , the village head of Brownsweg), Maleakondre, Wakibasoe I and II, Birihoedoematoe, Kadjoe, Macambi and Djankakondre. Brownsweg is named after the path that leads to the Brownsberg Nature Park of the same name .
