Brokopondo is a place and resort in central Suriname with 4482 inhabitants (Census 2012). It is located eight kilometers north of the Brokopondo Reservoir (Dutch: Brokopondostuwmeer ), the only reservoir in the country. The dam, which is located in the nearby village of Afobaka , dams the Suriname River at this point .
Brokopondo is the main town in the Brokopondo district . It is one of the largest places in the interior of Suriname.
