The Bruch brewery on Scheidter Strasse in Saarbrücken

The GA Bruch brewery is a brewery in the Saarbrücken district of St. Johann . It is owned by the Bruch family in the eighth generation. The family business is the oldest company in the state capital Saarbrücken and - after the Dillinger Hütte - the second oldest company in Saarland.

history

The brewery was founded in 1702 by Johannes Daniel Bruch as a pub brewery, making it the oldest brewery in Saarland and the region. Until 1850, the original company headquarters was in the " Zum Stiefel " restaurant on St. Johanner Markt in the old town of Saarbrücken. Today this is again managed by the brewery as a brewery inn. In 1899, the great-grandfather of the current owner, Thomas Bruch, built the new Bruch brewery at Scheidter Strasse 24–42 in Saarbrücken. On April 18, 1900, the company was entered in the commercial register at the Saarbrücken local court. Thanks to the latest technology at the time, it was now possible to guarantee a higher quality of beer and a permanent supply of beer. Today the brewery with around 20 employees has an annual output of around 30,000 hectoliters.

On June 27, 2018, it became known that the brewery had filed for bankruptcy in self-administration due to an additional tax payment in the six-digit range . The managing director was confident of completing the process by the end of the year. No jobs were cut or wages cut. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated decline in sales, the planned insolvency was abandoned and the company was transferred to the regular insolvency procedure.

Types of beer

In addition to the Bruch No.1 , a classic Pilsner , the brewery produces various types of beer, such as Bruch Zwickel (naturally cloudy cellar beer ), Bruch Weizen (naturally cloudy wheat beer ), SaarGold (a light ) and Landbier 1702 (a dark full beer / dark beer ). Saar Radler (a Radler , also non-alcoholic) and Bruch & Co. - a mixed beer drink with cola are on offer as mixed drinks and alcohol-free varieties .

Since 2008, Bruch has been brewing Bruch Weizen , a wheat beer that, in addition to the well-known 0.5-liter bottles, is also bottled in the distinctive third-liter Stubbi bottles. Filling wheat beer in Stubbi bottles is an absolute rarity in Germany.

In 2011 the brewery produced the Wadgasser Klosterbräu again for the first time , a seasonal type of beer as a fasting beer with a higher original wort. The 2012 vintage was launched in mid-December 2011 in a quantity of 100 hectoliters. Another seasonal beer is the Festbock - a strong strong beer in winter.

The beers are mainly sold in the Saarbrücken area, but also across the Saarland. There is no sales outside the Saarland.
