Bruchus atomarius , also known as the wicked seed beetle , is a species from the subfamily of the seed beetles (Bruchinae).
features
The beetles have a body length of 2–3.5 mm. The wings are gray in color and have white spots. They don't cover the whole abdomen . There is usually a light vertical flaw behind the label. At the base of the wing covers there is a small white spot on the 3rd and 5th spaces. Halfway along the length, two indicated cross bars often run across the wing. The four basal antennae are colored orange. The front legs are reddish, the middle and rear legs are gray-black. The underside has short gray hairs. Males differ from females by the thicker rails of the middle legs, which are also curved and slightly twisted, they have a longitudinal furrow on the rear and a short end spur. Furthermore, the males have a pointed tooth on the inside of the central rail above the end pin.
Occurrence
The beetle species is found in the Palearctic . It is widespread in Europe. The distribution area of Bruchus atomarius sufficient in the Middle East and Central Asia to China.
Way of life
The larvae of the beetle species develop in seeds of representatives of the genera of the vetch ( Vicia ) and flat peas ( Lathyrus ) as well as broom ( Cytisus scoparius ). The larvae burrow into the developing seedlings and feed on the fruit. The adult beetles can be seen from May to July.
Natural enemies
The parasitoids of Bruchus atomarius include the ore wasp species Baryscapus bruchivorus and the brackish wasp species Bracon praecox .

- Bean beetle ( Bruchus rufimanus ) - larger species, differences in the hairiness of the elytra and the ventral side.
