Brother Konrad ride
The Bruder-Konrad-Ritt is an equestrian procession in memory of the holy Capuchin Konrad von Parzham , the patron saint of farmers , who was popularly known as Brother Konrad.
history
On May 30, 1912, Father Josef Anton Keßler von Harsberg from the Speyer diocese was appointed as Vice Postulator to carry out the process of beatification for Brother Konrad. Father Josef Anton came from the Sickinger Höhe .
On December 10, 1930, Father Joseph Anton was appointed by Pope Pius XI. entrusted with the post of postulator for Brother Konrad's canonization process. On the day of canonization in 1934, which became one of the greatest days of pilgrimage in Rome , 5,000 German pilgrims attended.
There are still many Brother Konrad rides in various places to bless the farmers.
Brother Konrad ride in Utweiler
The procession originally took place in Blieskastel . However, the ride there had to be canceled in 1935 due to "external resistance of a political nature" (what was meant was National Socialism ). Since 1936 the Bruder-Konrad-Ritt has been led from Medelsheim via Peppenkum to Utweiler to the Bruder-Konrad-Kirche in Saarpfalz .
Horsemen, tractors and team leaders are allowed to take part in the procession. A relic of St. Brother Konrad carried along. At the end of the procession, the riders and their horses as well as the participating vehicles are given the blessing. Afterwards a Holy Mass will be celebrated in the open air. The organization of the ride and the hospitality of the guests are largely carried out by the Utweiler volunteer fire brigade , but all residents and the neighbors of the surrounding villages help.
The Brother Konrad ride in Utweiler always takes place on Whit Monday .
