The Brotherhood of Our Lady , also known as the “Liebfrauenbruderschaft”, in Bremgarten ( Switzerland ) is a brotherhood that has set itself the task of supporting its members. She also maintains the "Mother of God Chapel" in Bremgarten from her financial resources.

In the 15th century there was a "religious brotherhood of women" in Bremgarten; the founding document of the new "Brotherhood of Our Lady" can be traced back to June 15, 1452. The new brotherhood joined an already older brotherhood. The founding members were made up of craftsmen from the textile industry . The statutes initially regulated some liturgical provisions on devotions and sections in the masses .

The fraternity members pledged to support each other, they encouraged each other and divided the tasks between the various professional groups and degrees of training. For this purpose, a "care regulation" was created later. In 1461 the brotherhood of the Order of Friars Minor acquired a building and designed its own chapel in it , which later became the Chapel of Our Lady. Further donations and inheritances gave the brotherhood an important position within Bremgarten. The list of members around 1529 had 330 entries. The members came from all professions, there were clergy as well as men and women of all classes. The community was able to prove that the abbot von Muri and the sisters of St. Klara monastery in Bremgarten were members . In the years from 1750 to 1900 the brotherhood tried to win the local clergy as praeses . Efforts were made to found their own independent parish , but these plans failed because of the episcopal approval.

On November 30, 1819, the General Assembly decided not to accept any more non-local men and women. The last female member was also mentioned in 1819. In the 19th century the “Brotherhood of Our Lady” developed into a purely male brotherhood.

The reform of the statutes of March 20, 1862 established a board of directors under association law, another revision followed on August 14, 1892, in which the Roman Catholic denomination was established as a condition of admission. The last valid statutes are dated December 2, 1971, the purpose of which is defined as follows:

“Fulfilling the foundation and meeting the needs of the Chapel of Our Lady, providing scholarships to the daughters of all fraternity members. Confessional ties and the conditions of need are given up. "
