Between 1911 and 1913, 16 two-hulled boats of the class were built. During the World War three units were lost to enemy action: One boat was lost off the Turkish coast, two more in the Adriatic . A boat was captured by the Austrian Navy and used successfully until the end of the war. Most of the boats that survived the war were scrapped in the early 1920s. The last boat in the class was scrapped in 1930.
Use: Bernoulli penetrated the port of Cattaro on April 4, 1916 and damaged the stern of the Austro-Hungarian destroyer Csepel . On July 28, 1917, Bernoulli collided with the German submarine U 47 after an unsuccessful torpedo battle on both sides .
Whereabouts: ran into a sea mine on February 13, 1918 and sank.
Use: Curie sank on December 20, 1914 while attempting to penetrate the Austro-Hungarian naval base Pola . The boat was lifted and put into service by the Austrian Navy as SM U-14 .
Where it remains: returned to France after the end of the war and scrapped in 1923
