SM U 47 was a diesel-electric submarine of the German Imperial Navy that was used in the First World War .

Calls

U 47 was launched on 16 August 1915 at the Imperial Shipyard in Gdansk from the stack and was put into service on February 28 1916th The first commander of the submarine was Heinrich Metzger , who commanded the only two missions.

During the First World War, U 47 carried out two patrols in the North and Baltic Seas as well as in the Atlantic and Mediterranean . A total of 14 merchant ships from the Entente and neutral states with a total tonnage of 24,075 GRT were sunk. From June 1917, U 47 was no longer deployed due to technical problems.

Whereabouts

Shortly before the abandonment of the naval port of Pola (then Austria-Hungary ), U 47 was blown up by its own crew on October 28, 1918. The submarine decreased approximately at the following position near the coast: 44 ° 52 '  N , 13 ° 50'  O .
