Bruno Grandi (born May 9, 1934 in Forlì ; † September 13, 2019 ) was an Italian sports official . He was President of the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) for twenty years and in that capacity a member of the International Olympic Committee from 1996 to 2000 .

Life

Grandi was a good gymnast in his youth. After graduating from high school, he studied sport at the ISEF in Rome and then became a teacher of gymnastics, then he was the coach of the Italian youth national team, then the national team. From 1977 to 2000 he was President of the Italian Gymnastics Federation. As the successor to Mario Pescantes , he was also the acting Vice President of CONI from 1998–1999 . From 1996 to 2016 he was President of FIG. He advocated a reduction in team size at international competitions, which meant that the Olympic and World Championship medals could be distributed to more countries. In 2001 Grandi was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame . He was an honorary professor at the University of Milan .
