Bruno Kubas

Bruno Kubas (born September 15, 1928 in Dahlenberg , Saxony , † June 20, 2011 ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Bruno Kuba's farm laborer son grew up on the Dahlenberg manor. On the advice of his father, he attended business school in Leipzig from 1943 to 1944. In 1945, at the age of sixteen, he served as a flak helper in the German Wehrmacht.

After the end of the war, he met his later partner Anna Goldschmidt († 1998) from the Bohemian crystal glass town of Gablonz . He worked as a farm worker until 1949.

Afterwards, Kubas studied five years at the Technical School for Applied Arts in Leipzig in Alfred Thiele's sculpture class . He then completed additional training as a stone sculptor. He worked on the outer wall frieze of the Leipzig Opera House . In 1956 he became a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR . Soon afterwards he left Leipzig and returned to his home village of Dahlenberg. With the fee for the interior wall design of the "Leipzig Information" he built a house with a studio extension in Dahlenberg, An der Pleckmühle 3.

In the early 1970s, Kubas turned away from sculpture and more towards clay. His works were made in the Dommitzsch pottery factory ("Töppchenbude").
