Bruno Liberda (born February 17, 1953 in Mödling near Vienna ) is an Austrian composer.

Life

Liberda began his musical training during his high school with Alfred Uhl at what is now the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . He then studied composition with his most important teacher Roman Haubenstock-Ramati , cello with Tobias Kühne and electroacoustic music with Dieter Kaufmann . He has received scholarships at several European studios for electronic music (works, inter alia, in Oslo on the first Buchla hybrid synthesizer in Europe); Computer music courses at the University of Urbana-Champaign USA, received twice the Rome scholarship, Sandoz Prize a. a. Awards, lived for a long time in London, Rome and New York.

Liberda teaches electronic music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He has given guest lectures in Greece ( Ionian University ), Holland (Berlage Institut Amsterdam), France (CCMIX Paris) and Rome.

Works (so far 5 commissioned operas, 3 ballets) at the opera houses in Frankfurt, Bonn, Karlsruhe, Amsterdam a. a .; at the Burgtheater Vienna, Marstalltheater Munich , Piccolo Teatro di Milano , Bern, Berliner Ensemble , Wiener Konzerthaus , Concertgebouw Amsterdam , in Zurich, Rome, New York and many more

With Valse triste (1977) he is the first to perform electronic music at the Vienna State Opera .

Liberda's music is characterized by the fascination of tracing Hoëné Wronsky 's definition ( music is the embodiment of the intelligence contained in the sounds themselves ) by combining traditional instruments with the electronic devices of the 3rd millennium. His scores, often the result of process-oriented, non-linear composing, are located in the field of tension between traditional notation, optical stimulation and the integration of graphic and verbal descriptions - as an attempt to describe sound directly.
