Bruno Monti

Bruno Monti (born June 12, 1930 in Albano Laziale ; † August 16, 2011 ibid) was an Italian racing cyclist .

Athletic career

Bruno Monti started cycling at AS Roma and achieved 100 victories as an amateur . In 1952 he started at the Olympic Games in Helsinki and finished 15th in the individual road race , together with the team he won silver in the team championship . In the same year he won the Piccolo Giro di Lombardia , the tour of Lombardy for amateurs, and came second in the overall ranking of the Giro delle Puglie e Lucania .

In 1953 Monti became a professional . In the same year he won two stages of the Giro d'Italia . During the 1955 Giro he wore the leader's Maglia Rosa for two days and took third place in the mountain classification , the following year he was eighth in the overall Giro and in 1957 he won another stage. In 1954 he also had a stage success in the Tour de Suisse .

At the UCI Road World Championships in 1955 in Frascati , Bruno Monti finished tenth. In 1956 and 1957 he won the Giro dell'Emilia (it was his last win as a professional) and was second in the Tour of Lombardy in 1957. Overall, he competed in two road world championships, six times in the Giro, twice in the Tour de France , eight times in Milan – Sanremo , once in Paris – Roubaix and seven times in the Tour of Lombardy. In 1961, Monti resigned from professional cycling after winning a total of 20 victories in his professional career.
