Bruno Pasut

Bruno Pasut (born May 17, 1914 in Spresiano , † May 26, 2006 in Treviso ) was an Italian composer, pianist, organist, choir director, conductor and music teacher.

As a child, Pasut had his first piano lessons in Rome and from 1927 was a student of Cornelia Bindoni in Treviso . He also took lessons in harmony with Giulio Tirindelli , the head of the city conservatory, and worked as an organist at various churches in the city and the surrounding area. He continued his education with Luigi Pavan from the Associazione Musicale Manzato and between 1942 and 1946 he obtained diplomas in composition, choral music and choral conducting, orchestral conducting and polyphonic vocal writing at the Conservatorio romano di Santa Cecilia and the Civico Conservatorio "Benedetto Marcello" in Venice. During this time he belonged to the trio of the violinist Menenio Bortolozzi (with the cellist Giuseppe Sama ), performed as a chamber musician a. a. with Riccardo Brengola , Giorgio Ciompi , Luigi Ferro , Gilberto Crepax , Giorgio Menegozzo and Carlo Diletti and directed the Orchestra d'Archi Trevigiana .

As a composer, Pasut a. a. at national competitions in Florence (1939), Trento-Bolzano and Bologna (both 1940). A scholarship from the Italian Ministry of Education enabled him to study with the Berlin Philharmonic under Wilhelm Furtwängler in 1943 . From 1942 he was deputy conductor and choirmaster at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. Later he worked a. a. in Rovigo at the Teatro Sociale and as director of the municipal conservatory, in Turin as choirmaster and director of the theater choir school and in Padua.

In 1946 he won the competition to direct the Cappella Antoniana in Santo , which he held until 1969. In addition, in the 1950s he began extensive teaching activities in the subjects of score reading, music theory, choral setting, composition, organ and piano, etc. a. in Bolognia, Turin, Pesaro, Venice, Vicenza and Treviso. From 1974 to 1980 he directed the Conservatorio "Antonio Buzzolla" di Adria , then until 1981 the Conservatorio "Agostino Steffani" di Castelfranco Veneto . His students include a. the conductors Angelo Ephrikian , Mario Bernardi and Giancarlo Andretta and the organists Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini and Giuseppe De Donà .

As a choir conductor, Pasut founded the Polifonisti Torinesi in Turin in 1953 , with whom he took part in the International Choir Competition in Arezzo for three years, and the Cenaclo Polifonico Patavino in Padua , from which the Otetto Polifonico Patavino emerged in 1962 . As the successor to Efrem Casagrande , he was President of the Associazione per lo Sviluppo delle Attività Corali from 1991 to 1997 . Pasut composed around 350 works, including orchestral works, chamber music, and secular and sacred vocal music.
