Bruno Pesaola (born July 28, 1925 in Buenos Aires , † May 29, 2015 in Naples ) was an Argentine - Italian football player and coach who played for various clubs in Argentina and Italy as well as for the Italian national football team during his active career .

Career

Pesaola in the AC Napoli jersey

Bruno Pesaola began his career in 1939 with the CA River Plate youth team . In 1945 he moved to Sportivo Dock Sud and was signed two years later by the Italian club AS Roma . There he received his first appearances in Serie A and managed to stay up with the team. He then went to Novara Calcio and again played many games there. In 1952, the midfielder was committed to AC Napoli , where he experienced the most successful period of his career. Pesaola acted as a regular player and top performer at Napoli. He completed a total of 240 games in the top division in eight years and scored 27 goals.

Although he regularly occupied the top ranks with the team, it was not possible to achieve a better placement than the fourth final rank in the seasons 1952/53 and 1957/58. The native Argentine, who had meanwhile also obtained the Italian citizenship, completed his only international match for Italy on May 26, 1957 in the game against Portugal . The midfielder then received no further bids for the national team. His last stop as a professional player was the CFC Genoa , for which he ran in the 1960/61 season.

Following his career as an active player, he began a career as a club coach. His first stop was at AC Napoli, which he led on the sidelines from 1962 to 1968. In the same year , winning the national cup competition, the Coppa Italia , was celebrated with the final victory over SPAL Ferrara . The best placement with Napoli during his tenure he achieved in the 1967/68 season , when the second place behind AC Milan could be occupied. He then worked for the following three years at AC Florence , with whom he was able to win the Italian championship in the 1968/69 season. He was also successful in his next station at FC Bologna and won the Coppa Italia for the second time in his coaching career in 1974 .

On his return to Naples in 1976/77 he managed to win another title and win the English-Italian league cup with the team. The English representative FC Southampton could be defeated in two games . Pesaola then signed again with FC Bologna, which he led to relegation in two years with moderate placements. In the last stations of his coaching career, Panathinaikos Athens , US Siracusa and again the SSC Napoli, he could no longer build on his earlier successes and won no further titles.
