Bruno Tristan Peyron (born November 10, 1955 in Angers ) is a French sailor and adventurer who has set several world records with his crew and the giant catamarans Commodore Explorer (ex- Jet Services V by Serge Madec ), Orange and Orange II , in particular three times the record for the fastest circumnavigation of the world.

In 1982 and 1986 Peyron took second place in the Route du Rhum .

Bruno Peyron is the oldest of three brothers. Loïck Peyron is also a sailor and partly competed in the same regattas as his older brother; Stéphane Peyron , the youngest of the three, was the first windsurfer to cross the Atlantic alone in 1987 ( Raphaëla le Gouvello later used his windsurfing device ), surfed almost to the magnetic North Pole and is currently involved in the production of the French documentary series Dans la Nature .

Records (selection)

In 1993/94, Peyron sailed around the world from France in a record time of less than 80 days, becoming the first winner of the Jules Verne Trophy . Alternating with other record sailors, Peyron managed to improve twice - in 2002 and 2005 - the respective record for the 27,000  nautical miles long distance around the world and to recapture the Jules Verne Trophy. The third time he only needed 50 days, 16 hours and 20 minutes; Only in 2010 was Franck Cammas' third attempt on his trimaran Groupama 3 undercut by more than 2 days.

On July 6, 2006 , he crossed the Atlantic in 4 days, 8 hours, 23 minutes and 54 seconds. With that he broke Steve Fossett's record .

Both records were set with his giant catamaran Orange II , which is named after the company of the same name . The boat has a 45 m high mast and is 38 m long.
