Bruno Schilling

Bruno Schilling (born May 20, 1798 in Freiberg , † November 28, 1871 in Leipzig ) was a German legal scholar.

Schilling was the son of Captain Friedrich Gustav Schilling , a popular entertainment writer. So that he should pursue a university career, he went to school in Freiberg. In 1815 he began to study law in Leipzig, which he graduated in 1819 and continued as a baccalaureus and gave lectures. In 1825 he received his doctorate with the thesis "De Origine Iurisdictionis Ecclesiasticae In Causis Civilibus". From 1828 to 1871 he was an associate professor at the University of Leipzig. He was a specialist in canon and feudal law. He became known for his co-translation of the “ corpus iuris civilis ” into German. The work is still considered to be the authoritative translation. The Reichsoberhandelsgerichtsrat Lothar Schilling was his son.
