Vlad Iulian Chiricheș (born November 14, 1989 in Bacau ) is a Romanian football player . The central defender has been under contract with SSC Napoli in Serie A since the 2015/16 season . In 2013 he was named Romania's Footballer of the Year .
Career
At the age of 17 Chiricheș moved to Portugal to the youth of Benfica Lisbon . After a year he returned to Romania and joined Internațional Curtea de Argeș in Liga 2 . In 2009 he rose with his team to League 1 , the highest Romanian division. There he was used in 15 games and managed to stay up.
Since Chiricheș Internațional received no approval for the 2010/11 season , he left the club and moved to league rivals Pandurii Târgu Jiu . There he was able to establish himself as a regular player. In January 2012 he was drawn to record champions Steaua Bucharest . There he won his first title with the championship in 2013 .
On August 30, 2013 Chiricheş moved to the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur . On December 4, 2013 Chiriches also scored his first goal for Tottenham in the derby against Fulham FC .
For the 2015/16 season Chiricheş moved to the Italian series for SSC Napoli .
National team
In August 2011, national coach Victor Pițurcă Chiricheş called into his squad for a friendly against San Marino and nominated him for the starting line-up. Since then he has been a regular member of the squad.
He was also included in the Romanian squad at the 2016 European Football Championship in France . As team captain, he led the national team in the EM opening game against France. There he received the first yellow card of the EM in the 32nd minute of the game. In the games against Switzerland and Albania, he was on the pitch for the full length of the season. After the group stage, the team was eliminated.
