Grégoire Defrel (born June 17, 1991 in Meudon ) is a French football player . The striker is under contract with AS Roma and is loaned out to US Sassuolo Calcio .

Career

Defrel joined the youth department of Parma FC in 2009 and was active there until 2011. In the second half of the 2010/11 season he also played his first game for Parma. On May 22, 2011, he came on as a 1: 1 in Serie A against Cagliari Calcio .

In the summer Defrel was awarded to the US Foggia in the Lega Pro Prima Divisione , for which he scored four goals in 23 games in the 2011/12 season. Following the loan, the second division AC took Cesena Defrel under contract. In the 2012/13 season he scored three goals in 30 games and celebrated relegation with Cesena. In the following season Defrel was fourth with Cesena and prevailed in the play-offs , so that AC Cesena rose to Serie A. Although Defrel scored nine goals in 34 games in the 2014/15 season , the team rose straight back to Serie B.

Defrel then moved to the US Sassuolo Calcio and immediately became a regular under coach Eusebio Di Francesco . In the 2015/16 season he scored seven goals in 33 games. Sassuolo finished sixth at the end of the season and qualified for the third round of the Europa League qualification in the 2016/17 season . After advancing against FC Luzern and success over FK Roter Stern Belgrade in the play-offs , the team reached the group stage. In this, Sassuolo was eliminated from the competition and also in Serie A the team only achieved mediocre performances and ended the season in 12th place. Defrel scored four goals in eight Europa League games and 12 goals in 29 league games.

In July 2017 AS Roma announced the commitment of Defrels from Sassuolo. He signed a contract that runs until 2022 and initially plays for one year on loan with the following obligation to buy for Rome.

In July 2018, Sampdoria signed Genoa Defrel on loan. The following year his former club Sassuolo Calcio loaned him.
