Bruno Schliebenow (born October 3, 1909 in Berlin ; † November 19, 1966 ) was President of the General German Deaf Association in the GDR from 1960 to 1966 .

Life

Schliebenow lost his hearing in an accident as a child at the age of eight. He attended the school for the deaf in Berlin and then learned the trade of bookbinder and gold plumber. He was an active footballer in the Berlin deaf and dumb football club. In 1947 he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). He was an employee of the deaf department at the city ​​council of Greater Berlin . When the preparatory committee for the establishment of the General German Deaf Association (ADGV) met for the first time on February 14, 1957, Schliebenow was elected its chairman. At the founding congress of the ADGV in Halle (Saale) on June 1, 1957, however, Günter Wöller was not elected president , but instead . Schliebenow became the full-time managing director. After Wöller was recalled, Schliebenow was elected as incumbent president in March 1960 by the central board of the ADGV. At the II. Association Congress in Meissen (October 14/15, 1961) and the III. Association congress in Berlin (October 21-23, 1965) Schliebenow was confirmed in this office. Schliebenow was also a member of the German Association for Disabled Sports and a member of its executive committee. He died at the age of 57 and was cremated. The urn was on the Central Cemetery Friedrichsfelde in the graves plant for the victims and persecuted by the Nazi regime buried.
