Esodo Pratelli (born February 8, 1892 in Lugo , † January 4, 1983 in Milan ) was an Italian documentary filmmaker , film director and painter .

Life

Pratelli graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and chose painting as his form of expression. He had his first exhibition in 1922; During the time of fascism he took part in the most important exhibitions of the time (such as the Quadriennale di Roma and the Biennale di Venezia ). In addition, he worked in various management positions for film, for example at the Cinecittà , the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and for the censorship commission. Between 1939 and 1943 he made a few films himself based on his own script, which enjoyed some success with audiences - the largest of them probably Pia de 'Tolomei . The turmoil in Italy from 1943 onwards led to the abandonment of further projects ( Vittorio de Sica completed La porta del cielo , which Pratelli had begun ). After the end of the war, Pratelli devoted himself in many short documentaries primarily to art, to which he devoted himself exclusively again after 1950.

From the beginning of the 1920s Pratelli lived in Milan, where he married and also died of old age.
