Bruno Schmidt (politician)

Bruno Schmidt (born March 7, 1924 in Stettin ; † January 21, 2003 ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Life

Schmidt attended the Stettin community school from 1930 to 1934 and the Barnim Middle School there from 1934 to 1940. He then did an apprenticeship at the Stettin North tax office from April 1 to December 31, 1940. From January 1 to May 31, 1941 he was at the Reich Finance School in Feldkirch. Another training period followed from June 1, 1941 to April 1, 1942 at the Stettin North tax office. In 1941 he passed the financial candidate examination. His desired career in the Reich Finance Administration was interrupted by military service.

From 1935 to 1942 Schmidt was a member of the Hitler Youth , in which he was senior comrade leader from June 1, 1941. From 1941 to 1942 he was in the Reichsbund der Deutschen Officials . From April 1 to September 30, 1942 he was in the Reich Labor Service .

From October 1, 1942 to May 8, 1945, Schmidt took part in the Second World War as an SS pioneer and member of the Pioneer Company or Staff II in the SS Panzer Regiment 3 "Totenkopf". On August 10, 1944, he received the second class EK . Schmidt was taken prisoner of war and stayed in the POW camp Stockerau until April 10, 1946 . By a British military authority he was denazified on May 13, 1947 in Category V as exonerated .

After the end of the war, he worked from April 10 to December 5, 1946 as a worker in agriculture, from 1946 to 1956 as a police officer in the Braunschweig administrative district and was then employed again as a tax officer. After he was elected to the Lower Saxony state parliament in 1967, he was retired in the salary of a bailiff . He worked as a freelance tax agent, became a member of the Braunschweig CDU regional executive committee and was active on the board of the Lower Saxony CDU social committees, in addition, he was involved in the federal specialist committee "domestic policy" of the CDU. From 1961 to 1967 he was a member of the Braunschweig city council. For his work he was awarded the Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

From June 6, 1967 to June 20, 1982 he was a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament (6th to 9th electoral term), and from September 24, 1974 to June 20, 1982 he took over the chairmanship of the Committee for Public Service Law.

He was married and had two children.
