Wayland Herman Becker (* 2. November 1910 in Soperton , Wisconsin ; † 1. December 1984 in Lena , Wisconsin) was an American American football player . He played in the National Football League (NFL).

Player career

Becker visited in Green Bay , the high school and studied at the after finishing school Marquette University . There he played basketball as well as American football . He has received two awards from his college for his athletic achievements . Becker ran as a defensive end and as an end . In 1934 he played briefly for the Chicago Bears trained by George Halas , but moved to the Brooklyn Dodgers during the season . He was active in Brooklyn until 1935.

Curly Lambeau

In 1936 he joined the Green Bay Packers . The Packers had numerous select players such as Arnie Herber , John McNally or Don Hutson in their ranks. Under Head Coach Curly Lambeau , the Packers won the NFL championship that year . In the final, they beat the Boston Redskins 21: 6. In 1938 Becker succeeded again in the NFL final. The game was lost against the New York Giants with 23:17. Becker then played two more games with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1939 and temporarily ended his career. In 1941 Wayland Becker ran again for the Columbus Bullies in the American Football League, which only existed for two years. He won the championship with his team and was elected to the league's all-star team.

Off the field

After retiring, he served as a sergeant in the United States Army during World War II . He found his final resting place in the Abrams - Stiles Catholic Cemetery in Oconto County .
