Bruno Steinhoff

Bruno Ewald Steinhoff (born November 26, 1937 in Herzebrock ) is a German entrepreneur .

Life

In 1964, Steinhoff founded the original Steinhoff company in Westerstede as Bruno Steinhoff Möbelvertretungen and -vertrieb . Steinhoff quickly specialized in importing furniture from what was then the Eastern Bloc . In 1997 he followed his friend Claas Daun ( Daun & Cie ) to South Africa, where he founded the Steinhoff International Holdings group a year later . Under his leadership, the group expanded and acquired more than 40 different retail chains with more than 10,000 individual stores worldwide. The US bed retailer Mattress , the Australian living specialist Freedom , the South African textile discounter Pepco , the French furniture chain Conforama and Kika / Leiner from Austria became part of the group conglomerate. In Germany, it is primarily the Poco furniture store that was acquired under the management of Bruno Steinhoff. In later years Steinhoff sold the majority in the company and at the end of 2017 still held around 5 percent of the company's shares. He has not been on the Group's supervisory board since 2019. Steinhoff is one of the richest South Africans . He lives with his family in Westerstede. In his hometown of Westerstede he is the city's economic ambassador.

Bruno Steinhoff is married and has two daughters.
