Bruno Wehnert

Heinrich Gustav Bruno Wehnert (born February 2, 1875 in Berlin ; † November 1, 1959 in Hamburg-Billstedt ) was a German educator and scholar of religion and linguistics.

Life

Bruno Wehnert was born as the son of the Berlin community school principal Gustav Wehnert. After graduating from high school in 1894 at the Gray Monastery , he studied religion, Hebrew and German for higher education at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin . In 1984 he became a member of the Corps Baltia Berlin . In 1899 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. At the beginning of 1901 he passed the examination for the teaching post in secondary schools and received the teaching qualification for the first level in the subjects religion, Hebrew and German. After completing the seminar year at the Royal Seminar for City School Teachers in Berlin, he was employed as a full seminar teacher in Osterburg in 1902. In 1905 he became a senior teacher at the Oberrealgymnasium in Dortmund . In 1907 he was appointed to the Johanneum Realgymnasium in Hamburg , where he was promoted to the teaching position and appointed professor. At the end of 1934 he took early retirement.

Wehnert was the author of numerous religious-philosophical writings as well as fundamental literary secondary literature. In the 1950s he corresponded with Rudolf Bultmann in connection with his demythologizing program of the New Testament. His book Christianity - German: A Contemporary Philosophy of Christianity , published in 1936, was placed on the list of literature to be segregated in 1948 by the German Administration for National Education in the Soviet Occupation Zone . He was married and had a son and a daughter.
