The breeding pond is a four-hectare reservoir and is located about one kilometer southwest of Neuhaus an der Eger , a district of the city of Hohenberg an der Eger in the Wunsiedel district in the Fichtel Mountains (northeast Bavaria). It is located in the natural area of Selb-Wunsiedler plateau and is part of a chain of ponds, consisting of breeding pond, tip pond, shepherd pond, flat pond and protection pond.
natural reserve
The pond and its surroundings have been a nature reserve with a total area of around ten hectares since 1994. The extensive silting zones and surrounding woody and meadow areas offer a habitat for highly endangered animal and plant species.
history
The pond is mentioned in the land register of the six offices from 1499 as "Prutweyer". In it "one grows prutt and saplings" for carp breeding.
