Bryan MacMahon

Bryan Michael MacMahon (born September 29, 1909 in Listowel , Ireland , † February 13, 1998 ) was an Irish author.

Life

MacMahon was born in 1909 to a teacher and a civil servant. In his birthplace he attended the Listowel Boys National School and St. Michael's College. This was followed by a visit to St. Patrick's College in Dublin . MacMahon then worked as the director of the Listoweler school Scoil Réalta na Maidine II .

In Listowel he founded an acting company. MacMahon has lectured in the United States , Canada, and several European countries. In 1963 he was a visiting professor at the State University of Iowa in Iowa City , USA.

He worked as a translator and also worked for television and radio. He wrote several television plays for children that were broadcast in several countries. He has published works in both English and Irish .

He was a member of the Irish Academy of Letters , the Linguistic Institute of Ireland and Aosdána .

Awards

MacMahon received the Catholic Press Award in the United States . In 1980 he received the Hennessy Literary Award . In 1972 the National University of Ireland made him an Honorary Doctor of Law .
