history

In 1861, the Jesuit Filipe Francoz founded a community in Lyon ( France ) dedicated to the Holy Family . During the same period, various movements and associations came into being, which also met in the name of the Holy Family. The associations found support in Pope Pius IX. (1846–1878), who promoted the spread across Europe and into American dioceses . Pope Leo XIII. (1878–1903) recognized these new movements as an opportunity for Christian education and endeavored to unite the various communities that tried to follow the example of the Holy Family. With the papal letter " Neminem fugit " ( de .: Nobody flees), in the form of a breve , he founded the community of the Holy Family in 1892, the patronage was Pope Leo XIII. personally. The statutes and rules were revised in 1928, 1936 and 1980. The last revision dates from 1987 and on November 25, 1987 the community received the recognition decree from the Pontifical Council for the Laity , at the same time it was entered in the official register as an international association of believers under papal law .

Self-image

The spiritually oriented forms of life are reflected in the imitation and veneration of the Holy Family. In this way they want to exemplify the Christian family ideal to other Christian families and present themselves as witnesses and apostles of the family of Nazareth . The member families are offered ongoing training courses that reflect a testimony and program of orientation in the spiritual life. The special internal bond to the community is accompanied by so-called "home visits", which the family wants to unite in prayer .

Organization and dissemination

The core cell of the community is the "family"; families are founded at the parish , diocesan and national levels . A family is led at all levels by a council made up of three married couples and assisted by a priest . The national councils coordinate and promote the goals of the association and form the world council from among their ranks. The superior general of the religious orderSons of the Holy Family ” heads the World Council and performs the duties of the general secretary. The community heads the “Center for Documentation and Studies on the Holy Family” (the “Nazarenum”), and every two years it organizes an international congress in Barcelona and at the Casa Sacra Famiglia in Rome . The publications include the bimonthly “La sagrada familia”, which appears in Spanish, English and Italian. The families are represented in 18 countries around the world, of which are spread across Europe in 8 countries, South America in 8 countries, North America and Africa one country each, the headquarters are in Rome.
