The Bryant University is a private university based in Smithfield in the US state Rhode Iceland . Until 2004 it was known as Bryant College . In 2013 there were over 3,600 students enrolled at the university. There are the degrees Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science and Master's degrees in business, taxation and accounting offered.

history

Bryant University was founded in 1863 as a branch of Bryant & Stratton College , which had teaching posts in several states. In 1916 the campus was sold and merged with the Rhode Island Commercial School . The university was non-profit from 1949 and offered its first master’s program from 1969. In 1971 the university left the Providence city center campus and took its current location into operation. Tupperware founder Earl Silas Tupper made 1.73 square kilometers of land available for this purpose, which until then had housed settler farms. Through this move, the Bryant Archway tradition , which continues to this day, emerged : The archway of the old campus dedicated to Bryant was re-erected on the new campus. The rumor quickly arose that going through the archway before graduating would endanger this degree. Since then, trails have formed on both sides of the arch, which has made it locally famous.

The university experienced a significant boom under the leadership of its current President, Ronald Machtley. He founded new faculties and renewed those that existed until he took office in 1996. In addition, he built the new library, sports center, marketing & IT complex, student residence and an interfaith center. He expanded the sports fields and renovated the important classrooms and the Student Union. The increase in the university's financial resources by $ 169 million to $ 171 million by 2007 is also worth mentioning.

In 2010, the university became known nationwide because 34 students were arrested for possession of marijuana, placing the university in fourth place in the United States, and even in second place last year.
