The Buayan ( Eng .: Buayan River ) is a river that flows in the South Cotabato Province of the Philippines . It rises on the northeast flank of Mount Matutum . The river flows near the village of the same General Santos City in the Sarangani Bay . The Buayan has a length of 64.17 km and a water catchment area of 1434 km². Its catchment area is limited to the east by the Tangbulan Mountains, to the southeast by the Kioto Mountains, to the west by the Nopol Hills and to the northwest by the Quezon Mountains.

From its source, in the north of the municipality of Polomolok , the Buayan flows in an easterly direction in a gorge with almost vertical rock walls, after leaving the gorge it unites with the Malungon, which has its source at Mount Tangali, and changes its flow direction to the south and then flows in a wide plain towards the sea. Its main tributaries are the Kalaha, which has its source in Tangbulan Mountains, and the Tinagakan, which has its source in Nopol Hills. The Maribulan rises from the Kioto Mountains and unites with the Buayan shortly before its mouth in the Bay of Sarangani, when it rains heavily it overflows its banks and also flows directly into the sea.
