Buckley Motors or Buckleys Motors was an assembly plant for motor vehicles and thus part of the automotive industry in Ireland . The exact spelling is unclear. Both appear in advertisements.

Company history

AF Buckley founded the company in Dublin in 1924 as a car dealership . He sold Hillman and Singer vehicles . In 1934 the assembly of automobiles began. The parts initially came from Hillman. In 1938 the Rootes Group acquired shares in the company. In 1949 a new plant was built in Santry , a suburb of Dublin. Singer was assembled between 1950 and 1956. At the end of the 1950s, Škoda assembly and sales were added. 1967 Rootes took over the majority. AF Buckley retired. Malcolm Freshney now ran the company.

In 1968 it became Rootes Motors Ireland .

vehicles

First the Hillman Minx was assembled. This was followed by the Hillman 14 hp . From 1938 to 1939 it was the Sunbeam-Talbot Ten from the Sunbeam-Talbot brand .

After the Second World War , the following Hillman models have survived: Minx Mk. I (1945–1948), Husky Mk. I (1954–1957), Husky Mk. III (1960–1963), Super Minx (1961–1964), Imp (from 1963) and Hunter (from 1966).

The Škoda Octavia was created by Škoda as a sedan and station wagon . Construction time was from 1958 to 1962 and after a two-year break again in 1965, with the last vehicles not being registered until 1966.

Humber Hawk and Humber Super Snipe were only imported, not assembled by themselves.

Production numbers

The following are the registration numbers of Hillman and Škoda vehicles in Ireland from the years Buckley Motors assembled them. Last year's figures also include the production of Rootes Motors Ireland, as splitting is not possible within one year. No figures are available for Singer.
