Brittain Smith and Company Limited was an assembly plant for motor vehicles and thus part of the automotive industry in Ireland .

Company history

The company was founded in Dublin in September 1969 . It was a merger of the Smith Motor Group with the BLN Motor Company . The assembly of automobiles continued. JW Freeman was chairman, GV Brittain and CA Smith his deputy.

In 1970 the company was split up again. British Leyland Motor Corporation is said to have been dissatisfied with the fact that Smith Motor Group continued to assemble Renault vehicles through Renauto . The Brittain branch then traded as the Brittain Group .

Parts came from Austin Motor Company , Morris Motor Company, and Riley . Have survived secured Morris Minor and Riley 4/68 . In addition, the Mini was assembled as an Austin Mini.
