The Riley 4/68 and Riley 4/72 were manufactured by the British Motor Corporation from April 1959 to the late 1960s. The bodies were identical to the models Austin A55 / A60 , MG Magnette Mark III, Morris Oxford Mark V and Wolseley 15/60 designed by Pininfarina . The engine was the same as that of the MG Magnette, but with a less sharp camshaft. Another related car was the Di Tella 1500 (including Di Tella Traveler and Di Tella Argenta ), which was manufactured in Argentina from 1959 to 1965 .

The Riley 4/68 was part of the BMC ADO9 model family . He had the 2-carburetor BMC-B-series 4-cylinder engine with 1489 cm³ displacement and 66.5 bhp (49 kW) power. That was 6 bhp (4 kW) more than the Wolseley. In the 2 years up to 1961 10,940 pieces were produced.
While the Riley 4/68 was replaced by the 4/72 in Great Britain, the production of the Argentine models Di Tella 1500 , Di Tella Traveler and Di Tella Argenta continued until 1965.

In 1961 the car became the Riley 4/72 . The engine now had 1,622 cm³ displacement, 2 SU carburettors and 68 bhp (50 kW) power. It also had an improved suspension with torsion bars . The chassis had 25 mm more wheelbase and was a little shorter. The Wolseley 16/60 was identical in construction , but only with 61 bhp (45 kW). The Riley 4/72 was also sold as the Riley Comet in Austria .
When the Riley 4/72 was discontinued in 1969, 14,151 units had been sold.
