The Budapest String Chamber Orchestra (Hungarian Budapesti Vonósok ) is a Hungarian chamber orchestra .

history

The orchestra was originally founded in 1977 as a septet by graduates of the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest . From this a sixteen- piece string orchestra developed , which was awarded first prize at the international chamber orchestra competition in Belgrade in 1982. Since 1983 the ensemble has performed regularly in the most important Hungarian concert halls. In 1995 it founded the International Haydn Festival in Fertőd . In addition to the standard repertoire for string orchestra, it mainly plays works by Hungarian composers such as Béla Bartók and Leó Weiner . In March 2013, Robert Gulya's Nutcracker Variations for guitar and strings premiered at the Budapest Palace of the Arts . The chamber orchestra also played with renowned soloists such as Peter Frankl , Johanna Beisteiner , Irena Grafenauer and Stefan Vladar . Numerous recordings were made for Hungaroton and Naxos , among others .
