Sebastian Sprenger

Sebastian Sprenger (* 1972 in Munich ) is a German composer and music theorist .

Life

From 1983 to 1992 Sprenger attended the humanistic Wirsberg-Gymnasium in Würzburg and during this time received private piano lessons from Rudolf Ramming. From 1982 to 1987 he was a member of the Würzburger Domsingknaben under Siegfried Koesler . During his school days Sprenger was a guest student at the University of Music Würzburg in the subject composition with Bertold Hummel and Heinz Winbeck and at the Hermann Zilcher Conservatory in Würzburg in the subject double bass with Günter Mittelsteiner.

After high school and community service, Sprenger studied composition and music theory at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater , first with Dieter Einfeldt , later with Manfred Stahnke .

He has been working together for many years with the Eulenkrugstrasse elementary school in Hamburg-Volksdorf (named “Germany's most musical elementary school” in 2004). Sprenger wrote several works for the choir of this school. He has been giving piano lessons there since 2001. Since 2001 Sprenger has worked as a church musician at the Church of St. Nicolaus of the Evangelical Foundation Alsterdorf . He organizes there u. a. a series of concerts with a focus on contemporary chamber and world music. From 2006 to 2010 Sprenger led the Hamburg chamber choir "Ensemble Magnificat" together with Anna-Elisabeth Ubbelohde. Since 2007 Sprenger has been teaching at the University of Music and Theater a. a. the subjects of music theory, ear training and work analysis. At the International College of Music (ICoM) Hamburg, Sprenger has been teaching the subjects of composition, music theory, general music theory and work analysis since 2008.

Sprenger received composition commissions a. a. from the NDR , the Landesmusikrat Hamburg , the Staatliche Jugendmusikschule Hamburg, the working group Music in the Youth and the HamburgMusik gGmbH - Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle operating company. His works sounded u. a. at the Munich Biennale, the International Minimal Music Festival Kassel, the ChorKonzertTage Nordwest of the Association of German Concert Choirs and the intercultural festival “Eigenarten” (Hamburg).

Compositions by Sprenger are published by Boosey & Hawkes , Eres Edition and Edition Daminus.
