Bueng Boraphet ( Thai บึง บอระเพ็ด , Boraphet Marsh) is a marsh and sea area east of the city Nakhon Sawan , province of Nakhon Sawan and south of the Nan River (Nan River) near the confluence of the Ping River (Ping River) .

Bueng Boraphet forms the largest freshwater reservoir in central Thailand and extends over 224 km². Originally the area was covered by a single swamp, but it was flooded in 1930 to improve fishing conditions.

Part of the area is a bird sanctuary , so it is home to a great diversity of species. Bueng Boraphet is the only place where the Sirintara swallow ( Pseudochelidon sirintarae , named after Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn ) has been sighted, but it did not appear after 1980 and is probably extinct. In 1975 an area of 106 km² was designated as a protected area. On August 1st the Bueng Boraphet was declared one of the internationally important wetlands in Thailand .
