Association of German Rabbit Breeders

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Federation of German Rabbit Breeders eV (BDK) is the oldest umbrella organization for rabbit breeders in Germany. It was first founded in Leipzig in 1892. The BDK was dissolved through a merger in 1933 and re-established in Hanover in 1947 after the end of the Second World War.

In addition to the BDK, there is also the much larger Central Association of German Breed Rabbit Breeders , which was founded in the years after the end of the Second World War.

history

Foundation and early development (1892–1912)

In 1880, the “General Chemnitzer Rabbit Breeding Association” was founded as the first association exclusively limited to the breeding of rabbits under the direction of Julius Lohr. Rabbit breeding organized under association law had previously only existed in mixed associations (poultry and rabbit breeding).

As a result, more and more rabbit breeding clubs were founded, so that the need for comprehensive coordination grew steadily. Therefore, on 27./28. December 1892 in Leipzig under the direction of the meeting leader Werner Meyer (Gera) the "Bund Deutscher Rabbzchter" founded.

Within the first ten years after the founding of the BDK, 110 clubs had already organized themselves into 12 groups. The number of association members represented by the BDK was 2,700 in 1902.

Disagreements and Division (1912-1933)

Among other things, due to the disagreement of the breeders organized in the BDK, the BDK was completely reorganized in 1912, with the “Prussian State Association” newly formed at that time taking up the remaining components of the BDK. Due to renewed disagreements, in 1924 some of the members of the BDK split off as an independent umbrella organization, the “ Reichsbund German Rabbit Breeder ” (RDK). As a result, both the BDK and the RDK endeavor to join the existing German rabbit breeding associations.

Synchronization (1933–1945)

The seizure of power by the National Socialist German Workers' Party on January 30, 1933 also had a lasting effect on the umbrella organizations and rabbit breeding clubs. During the Reich Meeting of German Rabbit Breeders, which took place in Gera from June 17 to 19, 1933, the founding of the new central umbrella organization Reich Association of German Rabbit Breeders based in Gera was announced. The new umbrella organization was created through the formal merger of the BDK with the previously competing RDK.

Re-establishment, rebuilding and further development (since 1947)

On January 27, 1947, the reconstruction of the BDK began under the direction of Messrs. Kuhlmann and Andersen (both from Hanover) by registering the association at the Hanover District Court. However, due to the initial founding of the competing Central Association of German Race Rabbit Breeders , the BDK has not been able to match the size and number of members of earlier times. At the end of 2011, the number of breed clubs organized in the BDK reached the limit of ten for the first time.
