The association “Heimat und Volksleben” e. V. is an umbrella organization founded in 1948 for traditional costume and traditional associations in the area of ​​the old state of Baden . The regional focus of his activity is the administrative region of Freiburg . It is considered to be the traditional costume association with the most member clubs in Germany.

Purpose of the association

The association "is committed to the preservation, maintenance and promotion of the down-to-earth folk life, which is expressed in particular in traditional costumes, songs, music, dance, dialect, customs and traditions".

membership

In addition to the 200 member associations, which in turn have around 13,000 members, the federal government has around 300 individual members and over 150 corporate members (districts, municipalities, etc.).

history

The association follows on from the tradition of traditional costumes established by the pastor and writer Heinrich Hansjakob . As a result of his 1892 publication Our folk costumes - a word for their preservation , the Badische Volkstrachtenverein was founded in 1895 . The nucleus of today's association is the working group Black Forest People's Life , founded in 1948 , which from May 1949 became the Bund “Heimat und Volksleben” e. V. (BHV) called. Leo Wohleb , the state president of the state of Baden , sponsored the association, as well as other associations that served to maintain the Baden identity and thus supported his efforts to maintain a state of Baden.

activity

The association is an umbrella organization for traditional costume and traditional associations in the area of ​​the old state of Baden . The BHV and its member associations - especially in the districts of the administrative district of Freiburg - have been organizing district costume festivals since 1975. He is a member of the regional association of local and traditional costume associations in Baden-Württemberg eV and is therefore also represented in the German traditional costume association. Since 2002 there has been a separate association for the “Trachtenjugend” in the Bund “Heimat und Volksleben” eV (TJBHV). who is also a member of the Trachtenjugend Baden-Württemberg eV . The federal government is also a member of the Alemannische Heimat eV working group, Freiburg im Breisgau.

Since 1949, New Year's visits to the district president, district administrator and archbishop have been carried out in Freiburg , with around 140 people wearing traditional costumes each taking part. Folk dance courses for children and adults and “open folk song singing” are organized. The Bund has maintained a dialect theater archive since 1956.

Protectors

In 2011 Bernhard Prince von Baden was won as protector for the federal government . In the 1960s, Prince Friedrich Maximilian zu Fürstenberg took on this task.

Publications

The association publishes the magazine Der Lichtgang - Blätter für Heimat und Volksleben with a circulation of 2,500 copies. In addition, a so-called “costume book” is published annually, which contains the names and contact details of the association and the approximately 200 member associations.
