German costume association

The German Trachtenverband (DTV) is the umbrella organization for all local and traditional costume associations in Germany . The federal office is in Drei Gleichen , Thuringia .

aims

The association has set itself a wide range of goals, for which the preservation of traditional costumes is only the starting point. Literally it says: "Contact person in the European dialogue of cultures as well as the mediator in the global network of homeland care , folklore , customs and traditions, regional and country-specific clothing, dialect and mother tongue , folk songs , folk dance and historical festivals, the historical folk drama and amateur theater , the preservation of traditional crafts or listed buildings . "

Members

Members are state associations and cooperating members as well as individual associations if there are no state associations in a state. The association has around 2 million members and 200,000 children and young people organized in the German Trachtenjugend.

history

In 1929 the "Reichsverband Deutscher Heimat- und Volkstrachtenvereine" was founded with its seat in Munich and banned on May 30th, 1936 in the course of the National Socialist conformity. In 1947 it was re-established as the "Association of German Home and Folk Costumes eV". After 1963 memberships of individual associations in Germany, America , Southeast Europe and South America followed . In 1992 it was renamed "Deutscher Trachtenverband eV". In the years 1993 to 2000, all state associations of the traditional costume industry in Germany finally joined the federal association.

Honor

In 1996, then Federal President Roman Herzog took part in a parade in Marburg , together with 276 clubs. In 2016, Federal President Joachim Gauck invited voluntary representatives from the ranks of the German National Costume Association to his official residence at Bellevue Palace .
