Bernhard Prince of Baden

Bernhard Max Friedrich August Gustav Louis Kraft Prince of Baden (born May 27, 1970 at Salem Castle in Salem ) has been running the Baden family business since 1998 . According to family tradition, he is also unofficially referred to as the Hereditary Prince of Baden, Duke of Zähringen .

Life

Bernhard is the eldest son of Maximilian Andreas Margrave of Baden (* 1933) and his wife Valerie Isabella (born Habsburg-Lothringen ; * 1941). Together with his siblings, he grew up in the family estate of Schloss Salem . He is related to the British royal family through his paternal grandmother, Theodora of Greece , and is the 2nd cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry .

When the family's finances got into trouble in the 1990s, Bernhard Prinz von Baden gave up studying business administration and law in Hamburg and took care of the restructuring of the family's assets . In the course of this, the family gave up various company investments and parted with three of their four castles:

After the sales in the 2000s, only Staufenberg Castle and its winery are still owned by the Baden family. The Margrave von Baden winery presses its wines in Salem Castle on Lake Constance and Staufenberg Castle in Ortenau. The vineyard area is 135 hectares.

Bernhard has been President of the Internationale Club e. V., who organized the international horse races in Baden-Baden in Iffezheim until its bankruptcy in 2009.

He became known to a wider public in 2006 when the media reported that the state of Baden-Württemberg was planning sales of top pieces from the manuscript collection of the Badische Landesbibliothek in the amount of 70 million euros in order to accommodate the House of Baden, which is making property claims .

In 1998 Bernhard Prince von Baden was appointed by his father to be the general representative of the family assets and has been running the company ever since. He runs a modern forestry with ecological variety. He is committed to maintaining the Müller-Thurgau grape variety in the management of the margravial winery .

Marriage and offspring

On June 22, 2001 Bernhard Prinz von Baden married the advertising clerk Stephanie Kaul (* 1966). The marriage produced three sons.
