The Federal Center for Canoe Slalom and White Water in Augsburg was set up together with the Eiskanal , a white water facility for canoeing , on the occasion of the 1972 Summer Olympics and has been an Olympic base since 1992 . All German competitive athletes in the canoe slalom area prepare for important national and international competitions and receive special athletic support.

The federal performance center is located directly on the ice canal and, in addition to the original Olympic competition route, has four other training routes for all levels of difficulty. The athletes also have 80,000 square meters of open space, practice pools, a competition tower and functional buildings at their disposal, which also offer overnight accommodation for up to 40 people.

In preparation for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , the old functional building was completely demolished and rebuilt larger, as the old building was polluted and no longer met modern requirements. This means that the canoeists of the German Canoe Association can again have optimal exercise opportunities.

Sponsorship

The high performance center including the facility is financially supported by the Ministry of the Interior of the Federal Republic of Germany , the Free State of Bavaria and the City of Augsburg.
