Červenice Castle

The Červenice Castle is an abandoned medieval spur castle on the Sirákovice district of the town of Golčův Jeníkov in the Okres Havlíčkův Brod in the Czech Republic .

geography

The former castle is located on a wooded spur above a bend of the Váhanka stream in the Hornosázavská pahorkatina ( hill country on the upper Sázava ).

Surrounding places are Sirákovice in the north, Vilémov and Klášter in the east, Nasavrky in the southwest and Vrtěšice in the west.

history

There are no written records about the castle. Archaeological research concluded that it was probably built in the 13th century. It is seen either as a small colonization castle or as a noble residence from the early days of castle building by the lower nobility.

It is believed that the sinking of the castle in 1278 in connection with the destruction of the Benedictine monastery Wilmzell by troops of the German king I. Rudolf took place.

investment

Behind the front wall to the plant and moat , the was bailey . The area of the core castle was separated from the outer castle by a wall and enclosed by another moat. The front of the main castle, where there was probably a tower, was protected by double fortifications.

Today only ramparts and ditches as well as a prominent four meter high rubble hill - probably the rubble of the collapsed keep - have been preserved. There are no building remains of the core castle. Only in the rear part of the complex are the remains of a recessed object. The western part of the castle grounds was damaged by a quarry.
