The Castle Alt-Bubenberg is the ruins of a medieval Spur castle from the 12th century in the Swiss municipality Frauenkappelen in the canton of Bern .
Location and description
Alt-Bubenberg Castle was built on a mountain spur above the Aare . Today it is located above the Wohlensee .
Today the castle hill, two earthen walls, which are still moat and Sodbrunnen be seen. Since there are no remains of the wall, it can be assumed that it was a pure earth castle with a wooden palisade .
history
The castle was first mentioned in documents in 1241. The castle is with some probability the ancestral seat of the Bernese patrician family von Bubenberg .
Alt-Bubenberg Castle was abandoned in the 14th century.
