history

The castle is mentioned in historical documents in 1161, expressly in 1279. It was built by the Counts of Bogen in the second half of the 12th century at the latest , after which the Counts of Andechs inherited it , and later it was owned by the Spanheim dukes . The Archer Knights managed the castle from 1248 until the end of the 15th century when it became extinct. In 1501, Leonhard Herič from Kompolje bei Blagovica , a relative of the Archer, sold the castle to the knight Jurij Scheyer, and in 1515 rebellious peasants attacked and robbed the castle. In 1525 Archduke Karl awarded the castle with land in feudto Janez Baltazar pl. Wernegkh, at the beginning of the 17th century , Ruessenstein was a co-owner. In the 17th century, the owners of the castle were Messrs. Wernischek, who later sold the castle to the Kajzelj family, who set up flowerbeds and a pond below the castle , in which they raised crabs . During the years 1784 and 1825, Franz Karl Baron Haller von Hallerstein saved the old castle from decay and gave it a new look . He designed the new garden and built a farm building. The next owner of the castle was Felix Edler von Lenck, who owned the building at the end of the 19th century . After the wedding with an American, Edler von Lenck had a saw built in the village , vineyards were planted and a water pipe was laid in the castle from the nearby spring.

Since December 2014 , the castle has had a new owner, who will renovate the castle, according to plans from August 2015 , and open a museum. Raka Castle is closed to visitors.

During the Second World War, the castle became a military base. Raka Castle reappears as the seat of the community from 1952 to 1961. In 1948, the Sisters of Mercy, who were expelled from their residence, settled in the castle and left it again in 1998.

building

At sight

The castle was designed as a one-story four - wing building with a basement . It has an eleven-axis facade on the north side and an eight-axis lateral facade on the left or east side. To the west and south, the castle is surrounded by a forest and bushes; it can also be bypassed on a narrow path. The mighty, classical stone portal leads to the arcade courtyard .

In the recent past, the ground floor primarily had an economic function. In the high ground floor of the west wing were a granary and a storage reservoir , with chambers in the ground for the storage of field products, under the wooden ceiling with a number of support beams were products suspended crop yields. The wide stone staircase in the middle of the eastern wing leads from the arched hallway to the first floor. There are rooms here, some are separated, the floors are made of wood. In the central part of the southern wing there is a flat-decked hall. The parquet is made in the baroque tradition. An outside elevator for transporting food from the kitchen to the rooms leads from the lower floor.

The distribution room for the meal is interesting, a small built-in cupboard and a partition wall, the distribution desk with cupboards have been preserved. This room is larger than the other rooms, but not centrally located. It connects the southern with the western tract, through which one arrives at the only open arcade in the north, where only the passage is. On the attic the original pavement has been preserved.
