The castle Blankenburg is a small Outbound castle in the district Engehausen the community basin in Lower Saxony . It originated around the 13th century. Only parts of the wall are left. Today, on the former castle grounds, there is a farm complex that used to be an aristocratic estate.

geography

The Niederungsburg was built on the northern bank of the Aller above the floodplain. Today it lies on a silted oxbow lake of the river. On the southeast side of the former Burgplatz there are still remnants of a wall that was leveled on the opposite side around 1900. The former extent of the castle complex is estimated to be 50 × 50 m. Today there is an old farmhouse in the middle of the Burgstall . At the beginning of the 20th century, foundations and parts of a vault are said to have been found on the site.

history

The castle is attributed to the Lords of Blankena or Blankenhagen, who are mentioned in a document in connection with Hodenhagen Castle in the middle of the 13th century . But their gender is said to have died out soon.

Agriculture on the former castle complex

The owners of the farm changed over the years: in 1605 it was Frantz Engehausen, 1618 Henny Backhaus, 1619 Jost Römer. "Christoph Engehausen sat on the Blankenburg from 1679" (first use of the name Blankenburg). In 1754 the owner was Jürgen Dietrich Plesse, in 1770 Wilhelm Braband and in 1787 Levin Christian Scörling. From 1770 the farm was run as a cultivation place with an estate of around 22 hectares. Since this area was barely enough to be able to live on the farm, three owners with the name Schörling emigrated to America between 1830 and 1847. The first owner in the post-war period was Hermann Schorling. When his son went missing in Russia, his daughter Ilse married the professional soldier Hermann Berlin. After his death in 1996, Hermann Berlin jun. ran the farm as a sideline until 1999. From 1970 agriculture was given up.
