Engehausen is a district of the municipality of Essel in the Lower Saxony district of Heidekreis .

geography

“A characteristic of the Allertal are the many loops and wide arches that formed after the Ice Age. This winding course can also be traced in the Engehausen district and the Marklendorf on the left . The Alte Aller in particular , which flows directly past the Blankenburg, bears witness to this: before the construction of the Marklendorf lock, the actual Aller flowed in a wide arc. "

- Heinz. W. Hinrichs : Engehausen - Ein Dorf im Allertal, p. 13 (see lit.index.)

There are two medieval castles in the Engehausen district: The Uhlenburg is only recognizable as a castle site , while the Blankenburg is an agricultural enterprise today.

"The fact that there were just two such castles in the Engehausen district bears eloquent testimony to the strategic importance of this area."

- Heinz. W. Hinrichs : Engehausen - Ein Dorf im Allertal, p. 23 (see lit.

The favorable location helped the old noble families who settled in the area to control the ships on the Aller - before the road to Celle was built between 1856 and 1866.

The place has three locations : Stillenhöfen, Blankenburg and Engehausen. It lies on the northern bank of the Aller . The federal highway 7 leaves the place to the east. The Allertal service area is at the intersection of the motorway with the road from Essel to Celle (L180) - through Engehausen.

history

The history of Engehausens goes back very far into the past. There were owners with the name "Plesse" on several farms in the village - as in other places in the Allertal (e.g. in Jeversen , Buchholz , Marklendorf , Essel , Schwarmstedt , Hodenhagen and Thören ). Family relationships can only be partially proven. On the Davidshof there were z. B. an Else Plesse, b. Plesse (1902-1997).

On March 1, 1974, Engehausen was incorporated into the municipality of Essel.

Yards

Engehausen is an agricultural village. In addition to the farms in Stillenhöfen, Engehausen and the Blankenburg, a forester's farm was built at the end of the twentieth century. After the Second World War, a camping site near the Allertal service area and some holiday apartments were built.

Stillenhöfe

In Stillenhöfen there are two courtyards, the Gabrielshof and the Davidshof. The Gabrielshof appears in the court treasury register of Celle 1438. The Davidshof is mentioned in a Meier letter in 1683 .

Enclosed

In Engehausen there are four courtyards, the Henkenhof, Kassens Hof, the Eimckershof and Hachmeisters Hof. The existence of the Henkenhof can be traced back to 1511. Kassenshof was listed in the cattle treasury register in 1589. The Eimckershof is mentioned in the treasury register from 1683. Hachmeister's court was put on record in 1802.

Blankenburg

The court of the Blankenburg is noted in a document from the District Bailiwick of Essel from 1618.
